Most that know me are aware of my fascination with Todrick Hall. Im not a long time fan, as i didn’t know he did American Idol or was on MTV. His appearances on RuPaul’s Drag Race started my fascination. Here was this 30 year old man who has amazing vocal and dance talents and I only wanted to learn more. One day of flipping through Netflix, I saw his documentary of how he made “Straight Out of OZ” and I instantly fell for his talent and passion. He never ceases to amaze me. So, to end this week lightly let me share two of my favorite videos of his.
Wrong Bitch – How can you not like this song. It flies attitude in the faces of those who wish to tell you how to live. He sings of not letting others steal his voice and his power. Simply put, if you think you can tear me down, “you got the wrong bitch…”
Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels – First, Miss Thang, that pink triangle in the back is giving me life. Next, that beat just slays. It makes you want to get the fuck up and move. Todrick fully embraces the fluidity of gender identity, one should not be bound in a box that others try to impose on you. Live your life your way. No apologies and as if you own it all. And let me tell you, mad respect for anyone that can dance in stilettos. This video is, to me, all that Todrick is. Showman, entertainer, lover of life, choreographer, writer, singer, and talent that does not end.
I hope these videos gave you a good insight into someone who believes in living their dream. If you haven’t heard of Todrick Hall before, check out all he has done. It is truly amazing. Got a favorite song, hit me up in the comments and let me know.
